Spores from Phycomyces

Phycomyces, like many other organisms, make durable and relatively inert cells called spores. The spores from Phycomyces are 9 µm long and 6 µm wide on the average. The spores remain viable for months if dried or kept under refrigeration. The spores germinate after a heat-shock (48°C during 15 min) or after exposure to certain chemicals.
